WHAT IS QUARRY ROCK LANDSCAPING?
Reece Aggregates and Recycling has a wide variety of granite quarry rock available for strengthening and beautifying your landscape. Our team can help you find the right size and quantity for your project. Landscape design using quarry rock can range from simple to complex. Regardless of the size of your project, quarry rock lends both form and function when used in the following ways:
  • Focal centerpiece - A single large quarry rock can anchor a garden or an entryway. Surrounded by greenery, flowers, or standing alone, a rock with an interesting shape and color becomes a visual ‘break’ in an otherwise flat landscape.
  • Natural waterfalls - Quarry rock surrounding a small pond and equipped with a pump provides a tranquil setting.
  • Soil retention - Retaining walls created with quarry rock prevent soil erosion while merging naturally with the environment.
  • Shoreline foundation - Adding quarry rock ‘armor’ to a shoreline prevents water and ice erosion.
  • Natural benches - Quarry rock in the right size and shape can be placed along walkways to be used as benches for sitting.
WHAT ARE QUARRY ROCKS?
Basically, quarry rocks are smaller rock pieces mined from a large rock formation (a quarry) found underneath the surface of the earth. Geologists are hired to find quarries, which can contain various types of rocks including:
  • Sedimentary rocks which are formed by the weathering of other rocks or from compressed sediments. These include chalk, sandstone, limestone and shale rocks.
  • Igneous rocks form when hot lava or magma from the Earth’s center cools and solidifies. They usually have a crystalline or glassy appearance.
  • Metamorphic rocks are transformed from sedimentary or igneous rocks after they are subjected to high pressure, heat, or hot mineral fluids. Granite and marble are metamorphic rocks.
